Stories of the Young and Restless
Summer is a time for fun, and 60 kids from 7 to 12 had plenty of it June 13-15 at the Cooperative Extension Lifelong Learning Campus in Las Vegas. They had close encounters with creepy critters, shot off rockets, played with Photoshop and moved their bodies to funky music during the 4-H STEM Camp.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, but the kids also wrote some of the stories of their young lives in a Life Stories Nevada memoir-writing workshop designed just for them.
Working from their knowledge of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series, the students learned what an autobiography is and brainstormed ideas that they wanted to write about.
Then they wrote. Some also illustrated their stories, just like Diary's author Jeff Kinney did.
Here are links to some of those stories, as well as materials to help other kids get started!
Note: The stories are in the kids' handwriting. Their last names and other identifying information have been blacked out.
